802.11
a generic name for a set of standards from ieee which ranges across the wireless board. 802.15 is at the bottom end and compares with bluetooth and irda while 802.11tga is at the top end and competes with hiperlan. the ieee has come in for a lot of stick for confusing the market with a variety of similar sounding but uninteroperable standards.
